ABOUT THE BOOK

The Unfamiliar
At the core of The Unfamiliar is my journey and a path I envision for each reader, laden with lessons from my life and the guiding light of faith and resilience. This book is a culmination of experiences, a guide borne out of a desire to make life's journey more accessible for others, to help them learn from my mistakes and triumphs, and to avoid the pitfalls that once hindered my steps.
My narrative is woven with threads of faith, humility, and empowerment. It is a testament to overcoming challenges, both seen and unseen, and finding strength in God's word. Through these pages, I aim to teach the art of speaking life into one's future, recognizing the profound impact of our words and deeds.
This book delves into the profound journey of overcoming pride and embracing humility. In my loneliest moments, I discovered the power of humility and turning to God, which became more of a guidebook in my life.
The Unfamiliar could also become a guidebook for those feeling isolated in their struggles. It echoes the story of the Biblical woman who found hope by merely touching Jesus' cloak. It is a reminder that no matter the depth of our struggles –personal battles or societal challenges – we are never truly alone. “I am because we are” by John Biiti.
The book transcends personal reflection, offering practical guidance on the mental, physical, financial, and emotional well-being of an immigrant, the importance of community, and the transformative power of a genuine relationship with God over mere religious observance.
Central to the narrative is a message of persistence, self-belief, and the transformative power of faith. It is about empowering young people, women, and all who find themselves on life's margins, cultivating a spirit of excellence, and finding one's purpose through mentorship and self-discovery.
Looking to the future, The Unfamiliar embodies a vision of positive change. I yearn to see a world where faith in God's word is unwavering, communities resolve conflicts with love rather than judgment, and everyone feels a sense of belonging. This vision is reflected in the ethos of WOPI – 'I belong.' Belonging is crucial in a family, church, or any organization, especially in diaspora communities where families are often distant.
I advocate for environments that foster character development and nurture talent, free from negative peer pressure. In WOPI, we provide a platform for talents to flourish, emphasizing the importance of mental and Physical health, teamwork, service to others, and self-care.
The Unfamiliar is a journey into the heart of living a life of service, humility, and faith. It is a call to embrace our roles in shaping our communities, nurturing gifts in ourselves and others, and living a life that reflects the teachings of Jesus. I hope this book serves as a guiding light, leading readers to discover their place of belonging, cultivate their talents, and live a life of service and faith.
