Stephen K. Lwanga
STEPHEN K. LWANGA B.A., MS, M.Sc., was Management Sciences for Health (MSH) Country Representative for Uganda and Director, STAR-E LQAS until mid-January 2015.
Previously, he was Associate Professor at Makerere University Institute of Public Health before joining the World Health Organisation in 1978. He worked as a Statistician with the World Health Organisation 1978-1981 in Zambia and in Geneva 1981-2000, developing statistical and epidemiological tools for various programmes of WHO. From 1991-1993, he was in Uganda establishing the Uganda AIDS Commission. He was involved with UNICEF's Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) that supported coverage surveys of EPI vaccinations in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He has also worked as a consultant for various organisations, ministries of health, and universities. He was, for six years, a member of the WHO AFR Regional Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (RITAG). Stephen is a Buddonian who received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics (Honours) from London University, his Master of Science in Statistics from Aberdeen University, and Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Harvard University. He has several publications under his belt and is a member of the International Epidemiological Association, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and a Major Donor Rotarian. Stephen lives in Kampala, Uganda with his wife and daughter and at their retirement farm in Luwero district.
