Ruth Emanikor
Ruth Emanikor is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya as such in the name and style of M/s Emanikor & Company Advocate based in Lodwar Town, within Turkana County. She graduated from Moi University in 2003 with a 0Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2005. She currently also serves as the Director, Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation of Article 43 Community Based Organisation. She is part of the Turkana Indigenous community in Kenya and her expertise lies with the empowerment of Women and Girl Children of Indigenous Pastoralist communities in Kenya through biased towards the Turkana community.
For over 15 years, Ms. Emanikor has served as a Human Rights Legal Officer in various local and national Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) like the Indigenous Information Network (IIN) among others, and her focus has been on empowering the Women & Girl Child in Indigenous Communities while working for the IIN Ms. Emanikor widely participated in numerous national, regional and international Seminars & Training on Indigenous Peoples Rights and she was also able to coordinate Women & Girl Child Rights training events and capacity building for indigenous, rural nomadic pastoralist and hunter-gatherers. She has also worked as a Senior Legal Officer in several of the Kenyan Constitutionally established Commissions such as the Commission on Administrative Justice/Office of the Ombudsman and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Due to her leadership qualities, Ms. Emanikor in 2011 was awarded the Generation of Leaders Award (GOLD) from the Youth Agenda for offering outstanding leadership to Kenyans. In 2018, Ms. Emanikor established her own law firm in Turkana County, Kenya where she has been able to use to successfully represent vulnerable women whose proprietary rights had been infringed at the Court of Law of Kenya, whose proprietary rights have been infringed and also representing both Women and Girls who have been affected by Gender-Based Violence and/or sexual exploitation.
