Dr. Colin Sentongo

Dr. COLIN SENTONGO is a renowned education economist who has practiced his profession for the past half century, 1967-2017. He is a graduate of Makerere University with an Honours Degree in Economics and Political Science. He holds Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in education finance from Columbia University in the USA. He also attended post-graduate courses in economic and employment planning at the University of Sussex, Institute of Development Studies, in Brighton, England in 1968; courses in economic planning and labour mobilization at the Institute of Development and Economic Planning, Dakar, Senegal in 1969; and in economic planning and resource mobilization at the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1970.

He served the Government of Uganda as Chief Manpower Planning Economist and Assistant Chief Education Officer in Charge of Planning and Statistics respectively, he later assumed the post of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Development Program/Government of Uganda-sponsored Public Service Review and Reorganization Commission of 1989. He moved on to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO,) based in Paris, France, as Adviser/Expert in Educational Planning and Finance in Liberia; from that post, he transferred to The Gambia and, later, to the Kingdom of Swaziland (Eswatini) for ten years.

Upon return to Uganda, he started Centre Point Consultants, a Human Resources and Financial Management Consultancy; he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for thirty years, from 1987 to 2017, both in Guyana, South America under the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation, and in Uganda. The author was also Chairman of the Board of Directors, of the National Housing and Construction Corporation, 1997-2002; Chairman of the Makerere University Council Search Committee for the first non-Head of State Chancellor in the history of Makerere University in 2003, and finally, Chairman of the University Council, Makerere University Business School, 2001-2012.

Dr. Sentongo is member of various social and service clubs, such as the Rotary Club of Kampala West, where he was a past President in 1995-6; Deputy Chairman of the Association of former United Nations Staff in Uganda (AFUNSU); founding member and Chairman of the Mutungo Hill Neighbourhood Association; founding member and Chairman of the Kampala Seniors Club; The Nook Club; and the Hard-Core Fraternity, among others.

He is married and blessed with eight children, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and still counting!
